Urban forests are the best long term goal for the reduction of extreme heat. I grew up in the inner city and in the summer I would visit my grandparents in Mt. Washington where it was always 15 degrees cooler and the air was less polluted because of all the trees. Make legislation that prevents removal of mature trees. Make shade requirements, 50% hardscape shade, for parking lots, new and existing.
